The Chairman of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, has withdrawn from the tribunal. This comes after the PDP in a petition before the tribunal, asked her to withdraw herself from the tribunal on grounds that she has some affiliations with the ruling party, APC. The PDP alleged that Justice Bulkachuwa is the wife of Mr Adamu Bulkachuwa a prominent card-carrying member of the All Progressive Congress and Senator-elect for Bauchi north senatorial district which is a political party involved in the suit.  Announcing her withdrawal from the five-member panel of the presidential election petitions tribunal, Justice Bulkachuwa said “I have allowed the ruling on the application urging me to recuse my membership of the tribunal to test the position of the law. Now that the application has been dismissed on account of incompetence, I hereby announce my withdrawal from the panel. The remaining four members of the panel woul...

An old mugshot of  Naira Marley  has surfaced online after he was declared wanted in the UK at the age of 19 in 2014. At that time, the rapper was declared as one of the most wanted faces by Lewisham Police in connection with an incident in  Surrey Canal Road, New Cross  on March 5, 2014, according to newsshopper.co.uk. He was declared wanted alongside four others for various offenses including robbery and sexual assault on a night bus. The embattled Nigerian rapper is currently remanded in EFCC custody until May 30 for the hearing of his bail application after he pleaded not guilty to 11 charges of fraud against him. 

A man woke up after a night of heavy drinking to find that his penis had been cut off. Tan Nan, 44, went out with his friends in Hunan, China, and fell asleep after consuming so much alcohol. When he woke in the morning, the first thing he felt was a sharp pain. When he checked, he saw his male member has been chopped off and was hanging by a "bit of skin". He was also bleeding profusely. He rushed to various hospitals for help but they all turned him away as they were unable to complete such an operation. Finally, Changsha Hospital took him in and he was treated. His penis was successfully reattached during a surgery that lasted 7 hours.  Police are now investigating the incident as the victim has no idea who attacked him.

Two siblings have died after inhaling generator fumes while passing the night at their shop. Michael, aged 21 and Paul, aged 19, were found lying dead on Tuesday morning, May 21, 2019.  The brothers were known to sleep in their shop at Ojota, Lagos, and were usually among the first to open every day. However, they delayed in opening their shop yesterday and a concerned neighbour called their phones only to hear them ringing inside the closed shop. At this point, the neighbour got worried and raised alarm, causing people to gather and forcefully break into the shop. The brothers were seen lying lifeless with a white substance around their mouth and head. At first, suicide was suspected but preliminary police investigations determined that they were choked with the carbon monoxide from a running generating set inside the shop, Guardian Nigeria reports. Dr Chioma Nwakanma and Dr Collins Akanno met in the comment section of a Health focused page on Instagram a while back, met and started dating. Yesterday, Chioma threw a surprise party for Collins. The House of Representatives today passed a bill that puts an end to the existing dichotomy between higher national diploma (HND) and bachelor’s of science (BSc) degree holders in the country.  The bill which was sponsored by Ali Isa and Edward Pwajok from Gombe and Plateau states respectively, prohibits the dichotomy and discrimination between first degree holders and HND in the same profession, especially those in the public service. Honorable Pwajok who sponsored the bill, said the discrimination between University degree holders and HND holders was morally unjust. According to him,  there is a lot of segregation at employment level as those with first degree are placed on grade level 8, while those with HND are placed on grade level 6 or 7. According to him, University degre holders are placed on N100, 000 on entry level while their HND counterparts are placed on N70, 000 salary.

The Katsina State Police Command said on Monday that it has so far arrested no fewer than 70 suspected kidnappers from April to date across the state. The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Sanusi Buba disclosed this during a press briefing in Katsina on the achievements recorded by Operation Puff Adder in the state. He said that the police also recovered 43 AK 47 rifles, two Light Assault Rifles, 19 Dane guns, two pump action rifles and two pistols during the period under review. Others were five motor vehicles, 44 motorcycles, 200 cartridges, 25 liters of Jerry cans loaded with fuel, five bags of food items and over 1,500 ammunitions, among others. The commissioner further said that the police had succeeded in arresting the kidnappers of the Gov Aminu Masari’s 80-year-old mother-in-law, Hajiya Hauwa Yusuf. He said that those arrested were Abdullahi Sani, 23, Abubakar Dani, 25, Rabe Hamza, 30, Marwana Gide, 25, and Abdulhakim Bishir, 22. The governor’s mother-...

The Nigerian Army has reacted to claims by the Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, that the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division and Land Component Commander Operation DELTA SAFE, Major General Jamil Sarham, was involved in oil bunkering in the state.  Wike, who is at loggerheads with the Army chief, made the allegations against Sarham when he hosted a team of military personnel in his office last week. He alleged that Sarham was promoting illegal buckering in the Niger Delta region to enable him finance his ambition to be appointed the Chief of Army Staff. A bus passenger has been charged with murder after he slit the throat of a bus driver in Tampa, Florida.   Justin McGriff was on a Hillsborough Area Regional Transit bus on Saturday afternoon when he began arguing with the driver. As Thomas Dunn, 46, drove the public bus down Nebraska Avenue during their argument, McGriff walked up to him brought out a sharp weapon and slashed Dunn's throat after telling him, "God bless you," twice. The cut severed Dunn's carotid and jugular arteries. Dunn was able to bravely pull the bus over to the side of the road to save his passengers from an accident. He later died on the bus. Terrified passengers who witnessed the incident called police at 4:15 p.m to report Saturday's killing. A recording of the call shows the chaos that erupted following the stabbing.
